Equity in higher education is a global priority aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. First-generation college students (FGCSs), whose parents have not completed a four-year degree, face disadvantages. This study maps publication trends, intellectual leadership, dominant themes, and gaps in FGCS research. A bibliometric analysis of 610 Scopus-indexed articles (2000–2025) used Biblioshiny and VOSviewer to examine trends, country contributions, citation networks, and keywords. Findings show steady growth, accelerating after 2020, grounded largely in U.S.-centric perspectives on social class, cultural capital, inequality, and belonging. Mental health and intersectionality are emerging, highlighting the need for diverse outcome research.
