This study assessed the proficiency and precision in the use of the Vernier caliper among mechanical
technology students in a rural higher education institution. A descriptive-quantitative design was employed
involves students, who underwent a performance-based practical test using a structured evaluation
checklist. The assessment focused on correct instrument handling, scale reading accuracy, and
measurement consistency. Results showed that while students demonstrated adequate basic proficiency,
notable inaccuracies were observed in Vernier scale interpretation and repeated measurements. The
findings indicate that limited hands-on exposure affects measurement precision. The study emphasizes the
need for strengthened laboratory instruction and practice-oriented training to improve students’
measurement accuracy, which is essential for competence in mechanical technology and related technical
fields.
