The study generally aims to look at the functionality of the Barangay Health stations (BHS’s) and Rural Health units (RHU’s) and draw implications related to improving the delivery of health services in the province of Quezon. Specifically, this investigation seeks to achieve the following objectives: examine the current and existing policy governing the functions and referral system of Barangay Health stations and Rural Health units; determine to what extent do such functions were being exercised by the health care providers assigned various BHS’s and RHU’s; identify factors that contribute and impeded effective referral system; identify strategies and activities which could strengthen the referral network; formulate policies and guidelines for effective referral network for effective delivery of health care services.
