At present rate, almost 60 percent of Filipinos, especially those who live in poor rural societies, die without seeing a doctor due to problems and difficulties in accessing health services which are influenced by multiple factors. Among these factors are unavailability and inaccessibility of the health services, combined with financial constraints, inadequate and inaccessible transport and also ignorance of available services.
In response to this, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), have funded the deployment of 1,000 units of RxBox biomedical device developed by University of the Philippines Manila - National Telehealth Center (UP Manila – NTHC) all over the country. DOST IV-A was tasked to lead and oversee the deployment project and to develop an ICT-enabled system that will enhance the monitoring of these RxBox units.
RxBox Device Tracking and Encoding (RxDETEC) innovates the manual RxBox status and utilization monitoring process being conducted by the National Telehealth Center (NTHC). RxDETEC consists of an Android app which is installed in the RxBox device and an application system accessible over the Internet. The RxDETEC app acquires and transmits usage logs of the attached medical sensors to the RxBox and patient related statistics such as age range, sex and case type. The website stores and processes the data sent by the app, renders the visualization and generates relevant monitoring reports.
