Malnutrition is the condition that develops when the body does not get the right amount of the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients it needs to maintain healthy tissues and organ function. This occurs in people who are either undernourished or over nourished. Under nutrition is the consequence of consuming too few essential nutrients or using or excreting them more rapidly than they can be replaced. There are a number of causes of malnutrition. It may result from inadequate or unbalanced diet, problems with digestion or absorption, and some certain medical conditions. In some cases, malnutrition is very mild and causes no symptoms. However, sometimes it can be so severe that the damage done to the body is permanent, even though you survive. The researchers used the descriptive method, a scientific method which involves observing and describing the behavior of a subject without influencing it in an way so as to make a careful and deliberate attempt to compare the actual practice of the GABAY feeding program in Sta. Rita Aplaya Elementary School and Sta. Rita Karsada Elementary School to the Supplementary feeding guidelines for National Nutrition Council of the Philippines. The researchers recommend to parallel the GABAY feeding program to the National Nutrition Council of the Philippines for a more effective program and to attain the recommended objectives. This is also to give the right amount of nutrients to the beneficiaries and to impart knowledge to the parents or caregivers about the proper nutrition of the pupils.
