POTENTIALITY OF BARANGAY PINAGBAYANAN, SAN JUAN, BATANGAS, AS AN ECOTOURISM DESTINATION: BASIS FOR DEVELOPMENT PLAN

This study was conducted to provide reliable inputs to Barangay Pinagbayanan of its potentials as an ecotourism destination, thus enhance the environment, economic and socio-cultural aspects of the locality to enhance it become a good ecotourism destination. This is also for the reason that the researchers can see the importance of ecotourism in the field of responsible tourism and as well in sustainable development. The researchers proposed a development program to address the weakest points of the Barangay relative to as a potential ecotourism destination. Descriptive method of research was used to assess the potentiality of Barangay Pinagbayanan as an ecotourism destination. To determine the total number of respondents, slovin’s formula was used. From the total population of 1,087, a sample size of 267 was determined with a 0.05 margin of error. Convenience sampling was also used. The main data gathering was the researchers constructed questionnaire which administered personally by the researchers. The study found out that majority of the respondents were 31-64 years old, female, married, high school graduates and have a family income of Php 10,000 and below. Respondents also agreed that the Barangay Pinagbayanan is a potential ecotourism destination to economic, environment, and socio-cultural aspects. Significance difference were found on age, sex, and civil status for environment while sex, educational attainment and monthly income for economic and civil status for socio-cultural. Respondents disagreed that they encounter problems in the Barangay as regards ecotourism
