Food is an intrinsic part in our life. It is consumed for growth and maintenance of the life system and for many individuals. Throughout the world the primary work of the day is to find food that will supply the needed energy of the body. Preschool is the stage which almost all the children’s first exposure happens. This is the time were child really loves to play and explore everything around them. This is the stage where almost all the development occurs. They need a balanced diet that includes a wide variety of foods in order to support these developments. This study focused on the focus of Assessment of Dietary Intake of the Preschool Children in Wawa, Batangas City as a Basis for Food Formulation. Specially, this study sought to answer the following questions regarding the profile of the respondents- age, sex, relation to the child, occupation, civil status, number of household member. Then the profile of the child- age, sex, weight for age and assessment of the dietary intake using the food record. It posted a null hypothesis between profile variables of the respondents and the dietary intake of the children ad significant relationship between the profile variables of the children and their dietary intake. The researchers utilized the descriptive method with self-structured questionnaire as the main data gathering instrument that was validated to gather necessary data needed in the study. Respondents of the study were 54 parents of malnourished preschool children in Brgy. Wawa, Batangas City. The data were analyzed and interpreted through the use of statistical tools such as percentage, ranking, and chi-square. Results revealed that most of the parents are ages 30-39, housewives and have a 7-8 household member. The results also revealed that most preschool children are underweight and some are severely underweight. Among 54 preschool children in Brgy. Wawa, Batangas City, all of them have inadequate intake of dietary energy, carbohydrates, protein and fat. Formulated product was proposed for the preschool children in Brgy. Wawa, Batangas City to increase the macronutrient intake and improve their nutritional status.
