ASSESSMENT OF WORKING CAPITAL MANAGEMENT OF FURNITURE STORES IN BATANGAS

The study entitled Assessment of Working Capital Management of Furniture Store in Batangas assessed the business in terms of management of cash, management of receivables, management of payables and management of inventory. The study used the profile of the business in terms of forms of business organization, capitalization, number of employees and years of operation. The researchers tested if the variables had significant differences when grouped according to the profile of the business. The study used descriptive method and had a total of thirty-four furniture stores as the respondents. Survey questionnaire was also used to gather information needed and used as well for the representation and analysis of the findings. Frequency distributions, weighted mean, One-Way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Likert Scale were used to analyze the data. Based on the findings, most of furniture stores are operating under sole proprietorship. Most of the business has a capital of Php 200,001 and above, operating five to nine years. Each of the furniture stores has an approximately one to five number of employees. The respondents are highly practicing the reporting of current cash position, forecasted shortages and surpluses properly based on accounting standards in terms of management of cash. In terms of management of receivables, they highly practicing that management ensures any discount offered benefit the business and are implemented accurately. In terms of payable management, they highly practicing that payments are properly track and were made sure that it is given to the creditor. In terms of inventory management, they highly practicing that the management accurately compare quantities received against receiving reports. Working capital management in terms of management of cash, receivables and inventory have significant difference when furniture stores are grouped according to forms of business organization. Years of operation has significant difference in terms of management of cash, payables and inventory. However, when grouped according to capitalization and number of employees, all profile variables are not significant. The researchers proposed strategies to improve working capital management in terms of management of cash, management of receivable, management of payable and management of inventory.
