Based from phytochemical screening of different fractions of termites showed that 80-100% acetone in dicchloromethane contained glycosides which were isolated using column chromatography. Their structures were determined and verified through Mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy. The antibacterial activity of these glycosides was also investigated and showed promising results. A dose dependent variation was observed in the antibacterial activity. The 80-90% DCM fractions containing glycosides at a dose level of 200 mg/disc revealed the highest inhibitory activity. These results may indicate that Philippine termites could be a source of natural products with antibiotic activity against multidrug resistant bacteria.
