Today, tourism has become one of the major players in international commerce, and represents at the same time one of the main income sources for many developing countries like the Philippines. Given our natural assets bequeathed by Mother Nature and individuals as if destined to be hosts to visitors throughout the entire year, Philippine Tourism will be a major asset in the country’s economic balance sheet over the long haul. In fact, tourism is the fifth largest employer industry in the country, directly employing 4.9 million Filipinos or 11% of the total work force not counting the indirect workers in the food and drink suppliers to the industry. Tourism is also the third largest dollar earning industry, next to the BPO (business process outsourcing). Unfortunately, some tourist resorts empty their sewage and other wastes directly into water surrounding coral reefs and other sensitive marine habitats. Recreational activities also have a huge impact. For example, careless boating, diving, snorkeling, and fishing have substantially damaged coral reefs in many parts of the world, through people touching reefs, stirring up sediment, and dropping anchors. Tourism can also add to the consumption of seafood in an area, putting pressure on local fish populations and sometimes contributing to overfishing. Collection of corals, shells, and other marine souvenirs - either by individual tourists, or local people who then sell the souvenirs to tourists - also has a detrimental effect on the local environment. The tourism paradox therefore, lies in the tension between our desire to travel the world, and the need to provide the most benefits with the least harm. Many well intentioned people in the public and private sector are hard at work looking for solutions that will provide viable, long-term socio-economic benefits for tourist areas. Thus, this project proposal is entitled "MARAVILLA de CALATAGAN – A Proposed Beachfront Luxury Hotel, Resort and Water Sports Complex in Calatagan, Batangas”. It will give entertainment, relaxation, adventure and opportunities; accommodate and attract foreign and domestic tourists who will make tourism more dynamic and stable and help to decrease the pressure on the consumption of water and other natural resources; and most important is at the same time educate the public about conservation and protection of marine biodiversity. It additionally planned to give pleasure and satisfaction in life; and allowed to feel the excellence and beauty of nature as what the nation's motto said, "It's more fun in the Philippines".
