This study mainly aims to develop a mobile application for plant water stress status analysis using infrared thermographic imaging. Collection of thermal images of sample plants and their respective CWSI (Crop Water Stress Index) for the development of algorithm was first acquired. The developed algorithm that converts plant thermal images to water stress status was first built in Matlab for testing and then implemented on a mobile application. The concept of thermal imaging was applied to measure a plant temperature remotely and analyze its water stress status. Image Edge Detection was the primary method used by the researchers on extracting the plant from the background of the captured thermal image. With the help of some agriculturist and specialists, the researchers were able to execute the proper way of getting important parameters needed in the study through the use of some equipment and how the traditional way is being used. Researches were done about how important the water status of plant is, soil temperature, soil moisture and environment temperature relationship which made this study possible. Masking of image was done for proper execution of extracting the plant from the background. The program was implemented in a mobile application since the camera used is attachable to a mobile device whereas the plant water stress status would be analyzed easily by the use of android phones. The acquired thermal image of the plant serve as the input then proceed to extraction of the background from the subject and computation of average plant temperature. Validation of the results of the study was done by comparing the acquired result and the traditional method. Percentage error was calculated in terms of temperature (minimum, maximum and average) being emitted by the (1) soil temperature measuring device (TP101) and by the thermal camera being displayed on FLIR one application and (2) Hygrometer and FLIR One.
