The main objective of this study was to develop contact angle measuring apparatus using sessile drop method which can be economical and effective in measuring contact angle of different types of liquids to solids. To validate the main objective of the study, results were analyzed with the help of the University of the Philippines Diliman Department of Mining, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering (DMMME) Plasma Material Interactions Laboratory (PMIL). According to the gathered and analyzed results, the contact angle measuring apparatus using sessile drop method can efficiently measure the contact angle of any liquid to any solid samples. In relation to the evaluation of the apparatus, series of testing were conducted. Five types of rock and eight types of liquids were used as samples. The test result using crude oil from Department of Energy (DOE) and claystone, the measured average contact angle for the three trial was 17.31º(degrees), for sandstone, andesite and unknown rock 0º(degrees) and for limestone 15.52º(degrees). The test result using crude oil from SGS and claystone, the measured average contact angle for the three trial was 16.03º(degrees), for sandstone, andesite and unknown rock 0º(degrees) and for limestone rock 10.27º(degrees). The test result using used motor oil and claystone, the measured average contact angle for the three trial was 31.09º(degrees), for sandstone 21.18º(degrees), for limestone 46.16º(degrees), for andesite 18.52º(degrees) and for the unknown rock 17.35º(degrees). The test result using lubricant (SAE-40) and claystone, the measured average contact angle for the three trial was 47.46º(degrees), for sandstone 22.24º(degrees), for limestone 43.68º(degrees), for andesite 33.71º(degrees) and for the unknown 38.32º(degrees). The test result using diesel fuel and claystone, sandstone, limestone, andesite and unknown, the measured angle for all three trials was 0º(degrees) contact angle. The test result using catsup and claystone, the measured average contact angle for the three trial was 90.61º(degrees), for sandstone 97.60º(degrees), for limestone 83.45º(degrees), for andesite 91.36º(degrees) and for the unknown 91.57º(degrees). The test result using vegetable oil and claystone, the measured average contact angle for the three trial was 40.73º(degrees), for sandstone 23.01º(degrees), for limestone 22.21º(degrees), for andesite 36.37º(degrees) and for the unknown rock 21.53º(degrees). The test result using hand sanitizer and claystone, the measured average contact angle for the three trial was 66.28º(degrees), for sandstone 65.85º(degrees), for limestone 56.34º(degrees), for andesite 59.45º(degrees) and for the unknown rock 55.54º(degrees).
