The objectives of the present study was to determine the distribution and abundance of the freshwater bivalve Batissa violacea in relation to water quality. Highest density was noted in the mid-stream site with an average of 155 clams m2 , followed by the downstream at 136 clams m2 and the upstream of the main channel (126 clams m2). The size structure of the clams already indicated another phase of exploitation.
