Management practices of the farmers affect the production of pigs. Knowledge on the factors
that influence management practices is essential in crafting effective interventions to help
enhance pig production. This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the
management practices employed by the smallholder pig farmers in Biliran, Philippines. A
total of 136 pig farmers representing the three different farm locations were randomly chosen
as survey respondents. Logistic regression was used to determine the factors affecting the
management practices of the farmers. The management practices of the smallholder pig
farmers in Biliran, Philippines are influenced by a number of factors which include the age of
farmer, location of the farm, number of pigs raised, breed, production scheme adopted, mode
of ownership and the occurrence of flooding near the farm
