One of the latest trends in the Philippine education system is the implementation of the K-12
curriculum throughout the country. The study was conducted to present a preliminary survey
results on the maiden implementation of the K to 12 curriculum among Grade 7 Science
teachers in Eastern Visayas Region. It attempted to find out the demographic profile and
determine the view of the respondents, advantages and strengths of the new curriculum, and
the problems, issues and concerns met by these teachers in the maiden implementation school
during school year 2011-2012. a total of 120 science teachers coming from 60 public high
schools under the Department of Education (DepEd) in Eastern Visayas region were asked
to answer a questionnaire. Responses in the questionnaire were tallied and were subjected
to quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Themes and patterns were sought from the
responses and were reported in this study. Results showed that a number of strength and
advantages of the new curriculum were identified by the respondents. Similarly, variety of
problems, issues and concerns were uncovered.
