This study adopted the descriptive-survey method of research. The analysis and interpretation of the data led to the following findings: the knowledge acquisition practices of pupils supported by teachers were very satisfactory. The prevalent pupils’ knowledge acquisition practice was that they worked independently on reading assignments. The most commonly applied teachers’ knowledge acquisition support is reading aloud to the class. The pupils had satisfactory prior knowledge and very satisfactory vocabulary level. The reading comprehension of the pupil-respondents was very satisfactory. There were significant relationships between knowledge acquisition practices of pupils and their prior knowledge, vocabulary and knowledge acquisition practices of teachers versus vocabulary level of the pupils. Moreover, there were significant relationships between prior knowledge and vocabulary to the reading comprehension of the pupils. Based from the findings, it was recommended that pupils must be encouraged to read more educational books and adopt other knowledge acquisition practices to better improve their reading comprehension. They must be exposed to not just one but three or more pre-reading activities for every reading lesson.
