This study is dedicated to the development and validation of instructional material (IM) in Financial Management (FM), presented in the form of a practice set covering crucial FM topics like the time value of money, financial statements, financial ratios, and both horizontal and vertical analyses.
Initially, an online survey involved 224 participants, including FM students, faculty, and administrators from four University of Rizal System (URS) campuses offering the FM program. Additionally, a review of the grades of 399 FM students at URS Binangonan in their 2nd and 3rd years from 2018 to 2020 was conducted. The results of these efforts prompted the development of the IM, which underwent validation and pilot testing involving 24 faculty experts and 57 2nd-year FM students at URS Binangonan in the 1st semester of Academic Year 2023.
Purposive sampling was employed for participant selection, utilizing a descriptive research design with statistical tools such as frequency and weighted mean for analysis. Expert validators found the practice sets as exemplary in content, language/grammar, presentation, usefulness, authorship, publication standards, and physical features. Student validators strongly agreed that the IM met criteria for format and content.
Suggestions from both groups included enhancing presentation, ensuring content accuracy, incorporating realistic data usage, adding Excel-related exercises, and refining design and graphics for a more mature audience.
In summary, this study recommends using the practice sets as supplementary instructional tools, while advocating for continuous review and evaluation to maintain quality. Future studies could benefit from a more structured need analysis and expanded validation and pilot testing across all four URS campuses. Additionally, a
second set of practice materials is proposed to comprehensively cover the Financial Management subject.
