Mass production of quality coconut planting materials through in vitro culture is one of the goals of VSU that is to “Generate and Disseminate relevant knowledge and technology that lead the improved productivity, profitability and sustainability in agriculture, environment and industry”. In Vitro technology will be used for new plants in rehabilitation or expansion areas suitable for coconut. The project is expected to augment in addressing the lack of available coconut planting materials specifically in areas VI, VII and VIII. The ease of getting and accessing good quality planting materials will benefit not only plantations but also small coconut farmers who would be able to improve their coconut trees. Thus, consequently they would be able to attain more productivity and produce more income from their coconut lands and alleviate their socio-economic conditions.
