The low adoption of mechanization in processing abaca into fiber which accounts for about 20% of the total fiber produced in the country is caused by several factors such as the high cost of machinery, heavy, and cannot be brought to the farm where 80% of these are parcels of about 2 hectares, scattered 2 to 3 km away from each other in the hinterlands. The focus of the project is to design, fabricate, and evaluate a trailer-type abaca spindle stripping machine which is lighter, low-cost, run by a single piston diesel engine, safe to transport using a common mode of transportation, high-stripping performance, and is economically feasible.
