The project aims to increase the specialty rice germplasm of the Visayas State University through collecting
specialty rice accessions within and outside Region VIII. The collected accessions serve as the initial material for the
development of new specialty rice genotypes through traditional hybridization techniques. Newly developed special
rice genotypes are screened first for quality traits such as anthocyanin content, glutinosity (cooked), and aromatic. The
yield and different environmental trials will follow as soon as the quality traits are fixed in the genotype.
