Modules are learning materials primarily designed for self-study or independent study. It contains lessons,
discussions and multimedia experiences. Students can use printed modules or digital modules for online
learning. Digital or online modules are the trend for today’s learning. With the use of modules,
individualized instruction was applied. This study aims to develop a theory that will determine the
effectiveness of the module in learning through module utilization using qualitative design. The Module-
Student Synergy Theory, emerged by using grounded theory processes, the qualitative data gathered were
based on the responses of fourth year education students from the interview after using the STS module,
the data revealed its potential effectiveness. The students further revealed the importance of the STS in
science education. The Module-Student Synergy Theory depends on the synergistic connection of the
teacher and the students in relation to the effectiveness of the module and the student as the end-users
of the module. This theory may help the teachers to be aware of the need in creating a tool which will
improve learning. The utilization of the module helped students to perform better and learn the STS
concepts. Through this theory, appropriate module instructions are needed for the students to be
independent learners. Moreover, there is an essential need for the students to develop intrinsic motivation,
deepen study skills and establish time management skills in the learning process.
