This study explored the lived experiences of air conditioning technicians in Palompon, Leyte, through
thematic analysis. Findings revealed that most technicians came from modest socio-economic
backgrounds, with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), particularly TESDA certification,
serving as their entry into the trade. Their work is characterized by practical skills learned through both
formal instruction and peer mentoring, but also by challenges such as occupational hazards, income
instability, unfair competition, and irregular schedules affecting family life. Despite these difficulties,
technicians demonstrated resilience through self-learning, improvisation, and strong family motivation,
taking pride in their craftsmanship. The study points out that there must be continuous training,
recognition of the trade’s value, and policy interventions to ensure fair wages, safety, and professional
certification.
