The study aimed to develop and evaluate the acceptability of the Smart Hybrid Solar-Still Desalinator with Parabolic Thermal Collector. This study was explored as an alternative solution to problems related to accessing fresh drinking water along coastal areas with high salinity. It evaluated the performance, design, and safety of the device. A double-basin type of solar still was adopted and integrated with a parabolic through thermal collector to increase the heat transfer rate into the basin. Other integrated systems, such as the cooling and heating systems, were used to help expedite the process of condensation and to increase the production
of fresh water. Arduino microcontroller and sensors were integrated into the prototype model to automate the tracking of the sun's movement utilizing solar energy. Sensors’ data, like the water temperature and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) of the quality of fresh water, were monitored over the cloud via the internet through www.thinkspeak.com. The design, performance, and safety features were evaluated using a 5-point Likert scale with 21 close- ended structured questions, and data were analyzed using the mean and standard deviation. The main results indicated that the prototype device was highly acceptable. Based on the study findings and for commercialization purposes, this paper recommends further development and testing of the device, including bacteriological water tests to ensure water quality and safety for consumers.
