The purpose of this study is to investigate the dilemmas encountered by
coaches during SCUAA games and come up with a solution. This study
utilized a descriptive case design that aims to explore the dilemmas faced
by coaches and their coping strategies during the SCUAA. The participants
of this study are the selected coaches based on their direct involvement
and experiences in the SCUAA competitions and have been actively
engaged in coaching for the academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. The
data collection process incorporated in-depth interviews. The study reveals
a variety of pressing dilemmas faced by the coaches, including personal
factors for the coaches, relationships with athletes, lack of support,
financial limitations, uncooperative administration, insufficient facilities
and equipment, strained administrator relationships, and common
performance barriers. Coaches utilize various coping strategies to
overcome these dilemmas, such as improving personal capacities through
professional development, maximizing team chemistry and culture,
lobbying for better results, and seeking involvement with leadership.
However, long-standing challenges, such as finance priorities,
communication breakdowns, and systemic coordination, continue to
persist. The results underscore the need for effective, coordinated change
across all the people involved in the SCUAA, such as the coaches, athletes,
and administrations. A well-crafted sports intervention plan, based on in-
depth coach interviews, is prepared as the key to effectively navigating the
dilemmas and challenges faced by coaches and providing practical,
evidence-based strategies to optimize performance and athletes’ well-
being.
