The purpose of the study is to determine the on-the-job trainees’ competencies and skills
of PIT Tabango BSHM students. The study utilized a descriptive-correlational design.
Respondents of 117 were randomly selected to the set of BSHM OJT trainees. Results
revealed that the highest concentration of students being 23 years old, accounting for
17.9% of the respondents. The age range extends from 21 to 36 years, indicating a mix of
traditional students and possibly non-traditional students. Gender disparity were
significant, with the majority of the respondents being female. Respondents’ level of
competence in the conceptual/creative and interpersonal domain were high, while on
leadership, administrative and technical were moderately high. The OJT skills level on
customer problem solving skill and human resource management skill were rated as
“extensive experience”, while on the communication skills, written communication and
understanding management principle rated as “good experience”. There is no
significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and the competence and
skill level, however significant relationship were ascertained between respondents’
competence and skill level. Therefore, in relation to the study the skill level of an
individual is related to the competence of a person. It is therefore recommended that
SUC offering BSHM program should invest in the training and skills development of the
students, furthermore an industry-align curriculum maybe given emphasis to align the
skills of the students to the industry needs.
