The intent to help a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to enhance his
communication skills is the ultimate outcome of this study. A standardized tool called
the Oral and Written Language Scales (OWLS-II) was used for pre-assessment and post
assessment evaluations. Each assessment tests the two scales namely, the Listening
Comprehension and Oral Expression. This study utilizes a pre-experimental design for a
single case. The intervention presented in this study is the application of Augmented
Reality to the therapy sessions of the subject. The pre-assessment test for Listening
Comprehension and Oral Expression resulted in a Below Average and Deficient
equivalent. While the post-assessment result for both Listening Comprehension and
Oral Expression scales derived an Average score equivalent. The effectiveness of the
use of Augmented Reality was computed using a simple percentage. The score
difference between the pre- and post- assessment results showed a significant increase
in the child’s performance. The output of the study is the Individualized Education Plan
(IEP) which will ensure that the special educational needs of the child will be focused
upon.
